Fibre – Wedding Invitation
After choosing the crumbling music hall Wilton’s as the venue for his wedding reception, Fibre’s Creative Director Nathan Lauder turned his attention to the invite, “We needed something that would set the stage for the event and I knew that a Victorian bill poster would fit the bill.”
It was also a chance to collaborate with Kelvyn Laurence-Smith, an old friend and letterpress practitioner, and together they created a design that went from mechanical galleys to digital and then to letterpress.
From scans of specimen sheets printed by Kelvyn, Nathan created the complete layout of the invite, which was then etched onto a metal plate and put back on the letterpress. The technique preserved the character of the wooden type and the warmth of letterpress whilst allowing for maximum typographic control.
And on the big day not just everyone on the bill, but the bill itself got a standing ovation.
